If you are struggling with depression and stress in your daily life, unable to get out of the cycle and pit you find yourself in, then there is a daily checklist you need to keep to steer you in the right direction. Many people are lost in the flow of time, not sure why they are even here, and it’s because they do not have this valuable list.

Wake up at a relatively consistent time

Your schedule is very important, and it’s crucial you stick to it by waking up at a specific time to start your day. This means falling asleep at a reasonable time to make sure your sleep is consistent. You want to wake up with motivation to start your day. When you dread waking up, you must change your attitude since that will not get you anywhere positive.

Have a schedule and routine

Waking up is part of your schedule and routine, but now you must form a plan of what you will do for the day and general times you’ll do those activities. When will you be waking up, eating, working, taking breaks, exercising, socializing, and relaxing? The reason why it’s important to have the timeframe is because it helps you better organize your day and actives so you get more done and are productive, in addition to having more time for fun activities and hobbies.

Have goals

As simple as it sounds, most people do not have goals. What are your short-term and long-term goals? Where do you see yourself in a few years? And more importantly, how will you get there? Making a goal is one thing, but actually building the path to get there is another. The labor involved is immense, so if you have a goal in mind, start today instead of putting it off. Make goals for your goals to make sure you stick to them and feel a level of accomplishment when you’ve achieved it.

Eat healthy and exercise

It should come as no surprise that you are what you eat. If you’re eating junk and complaining about feeling terrible, then you should already know that the culprit is the food you are consuming. But, what does healthy food mean? To put it simply, it means avoiding processed junk food with bad ingredients, such as artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and oils, such as soybean, corn, canola, sunflower, and so on. It’s important to also incorporate exercise into your routine to help you feel energized and steer you on the right path to health. See the gains and progress you’re making to encourage you to push your limits.

Practice mindfulness

Mindfulness is being in the present moment, and it is the number one stress and anxiety management technique since our mind creates illogical scenarios that make us feel on edge. By letting go of racing thoughts and letting the mind relax and take a moment from the busy day, even for just a minute or two, will greatly reduce your stress. With enough practice, you’ll be able to remain calm in even the most stressful of circumstances.

Get in touch with your emotions

Getting in touch with your emotions is crucial to your overall mental well-being since we often let emotions control us. Depression and anger being the top two that people find themselves in and they cannot get out of it. If you’re someone who gets angry easily, as quickly as flipping on a light switch, then it’s time to practice mindfulness and take a few moments to relax and get in touch with your emotions so you are more in control of them instead of them controlling you. By you letting your emotions control you, it shows just how much more work you have to do on yourself.

Have a purpose

The most important thing of all is to have a purpose. You wake up each day, eat health, workout, be mindful, and are in touch with your emotions…all for what? What is the reason? Find your purpose. What motivates you? What are your dreams and desires? Why are they not reality yet? Can they become reality? The answer is ‘yes,’ but you have to change your attitude about it not being possible and dedicate yourself to fulfilling your goals. Nothing in life is easy to obtain. Under very rare circumstances will you have something come from nowhere. It’s always through hard work that something positive will come, but it may take awhile and you may not reap the benefits for a long time. So, find what you truly love and enjoy and make it your life’s purpose. If you are directionless and lack a purpose, you will feel like there is no meaning to your existence. So, make something out of the time you have here. You may not be able to achieve everything you set out to do, but it’s the journey, and the people you meet along the way, thats the most important.

I practice basically all these techniques daily and can’t say I ever feel down and depressed. Sure, there are bad days and I have moments where I do feel temporarily like things are worthless, but I have gotten so good at picking myself back up that it barely affects me these days. The most beneficial being having a purpose and sticking to a schedule. This has made the biggest impact on my life.
