We all have dreams when we sleep, even if we don’t necessarily remember them. Dreams are significant tools we can use to get better insight into our subconscious and what we are really thinking, the struggles we have, in addition to how to resolve them.
Each time you wake up from sleep, you may remember in great detail your dreams, or maybe only bits and pieces, or nothing at all. Depending on your quality of sleep, the better you sleep, the more likely it is that you will remember your dreams. Furthermore, if you awaken during the time you are dreaming, you will remember it in greater detail as opposed to when you are not in a dream cycle.
Certain drugs and medications can inhibit or even intensify dreams. A natural herb, mugwort, is one of the most well known substances that can bring about more vivid dreams. If you have difficulty remembering dreams or don’t have them at all, this herb may be able to help you. Furthermore, write down your dreams and replay it in your mind when writing it down as this too will allow you to recall more details and be better at remembering your dreams.
Some people can even lucid dream, meaning they become aware they are dreaming and can control the dream. This often requires practice and setting up dream triggers to fully implement into your dream cycle. Additionally, some people have premonitions through dreams, meaning they will dream of something happening before or at the same time it is happening in the waking world.
Once you have your dream written down, and are looking back at it, is there anything that stands out to you? Oftentimes bits and pieces of our day will be incorporated into our dream. For instance, if we had a stressful day at work, and made a few mistakes and feared being fired, we may dream this exact scenario. This is because we are so stressed about our job that we are not given time to do anything else. Instead, work on clearing the mind prior to sleep to get a better picture of what your subconscious is really telling you.
It’s possible that you will dream about a significant event coming up in your life, perhaps an indecision that has you at a crossroads. Oftentimes it won’t be as clear cut as option one and option two, but rather hidden behind symbols. For instance, you may see a bird in your dreams that is unable to fly, which may symbolize your inability to move freely in a situation. You may feel restricted in some way.
So look back at your dream journal and identify key details, the environment, people, and what is being said. These are clues to decipher the dream. Think of it like an elaborate puzzle that you must connect the dots and see a pattern in your dream state and in your waking state. If you’re able to form this pattern and see where the connection is, then the metaphors and symbols within your dreams will begin to make more sense.
Dreams are the way your subconscious mind communicates with you. When you dream, your conscious mind goes dormant, allowing for the subconscious to emerge and show you the answers to your problems in your waking life. Write them down, decipher them, and learn what your subconscious is telling you and you will improve the quality of your life and get answers to questions that your conscious mind and ego are hiding from you.

Dreams have allowed me to understand myself on a deeper level. While I don’t dream often due to the fact that I tend to get poor quality sleep most of the time, they have played a significant role and helped me learn more about myself. I’ve even had plenty of premonitions that have come true about family and friends.
